Jack Kornfield

Jack Kornfield, PhD, a clinical psychologist, trained as a Buddhist monk in the monasteries of Thailand, India and Burma. He has taught meditation internationally since 1974 and is one of the key teachers to introduce Buddhist mindfulness practice to the West. His teachers include the Buddhist master Venerable Ajahn Chah from Thailand and Venenerable Mahasi Sayadaw from Burma.

After many years of study in Asia, Kornfield returned to the United States and cofounded, with Sharon Salzberg and Joseph Goldstein, the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Mass., before going on to help create Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, Calif., where he currently lives and teaches. Kornfield also teaches at many other venues nationally and internationally, working with some of the greatest teachers of our time, including the Dalai Lama.

Jack Kornfield’s many books, including A Path with Heart; After the Ecstasy, the Laundry; Teachings of the Buddha; Seeking the Heart of Wisdom; Living Dharma; A Still Forest Pool; Stories of the Spirit, Stories of the Heart; Buddha’s Little Instruction Book; The Art of Forgiveness, Lovingkindness and Peace; and A Wise Heart, have been translated into 20 languages and have sold more than a million copies.

In celebration of its 10th-year anniversary, InsightLA is planning an elegant spiritual event in a magnificent Beverly Hills estate. On the evening of October 13, 2012, you will be inspired by an hour of teaching by our guest of honor, Jack Kornfield, as well as delectable refreshments, lovely music, exquisite ambience and a beautifully crafted and meaningful take-home gift. Our host for this evening is Sandra Oh.

This one-of-a-kind event is a unique opportunity to enjoy spiritual friendship and festivities. This is a limited enrollment event.

InsightLA is a nonprofit organization with classes in Santa Monica, Los Feliz and Studio City, and sitting groups throughout Los Angeles County. All funds raised from benefits such as the 10th Anniversary Event are used for the operations of InsightLA including infrastructure, financial aid for students who otherwise cannot attend, and human power to offer services throughout the Los Angeles community.

Lugassy, one of LA's most esteemed spiritual musicians, has sung for Thich Nhat Hanh, written a song for Amnesty International, and received two Emmy nominations for best song in a drama series.
