Half-Day Silent Retreat in the Soto Zen style

Ava Louise Stanton

Ava Louise Stanton is a long-time Zen student, beginning with 10 years of study as a founding member and resident of the Providence Zen Center with Zen Master Seung Sahn. She was Soen Sa Nim’s secretary and editor of a number of his early books. She and Trudy Goodman practiced together in the 1970’s as students of Zen Master Seung Sahn. She currently studies with Tony Patchell (Russian River Zen Center, Sonoma County CA) a teacher in the Suzuki Roshi lineage.  Ava is a psychotherapist in private practice  in Santa Monica, working with meditation students and other adults. At InsightLA she hosts the weekly Friday morning sitting and 1/2-day monthly silent retreats in the Soto Zen tradition.  All practice traditions welcome!

Time: 9:00am - 12:30 pm
Description: The structure of the morning will be sitting and formal walking in silence, with a short talk and discussion at the end.

We will begin promptly at 9:00 and end by 12:30. Please arrive by 8:45. Please come another time rather than arrive late.

Sliding scale from $25 to $50

Please pay at the highest level of the sliding scale that you can afford. This helps us make sure those who pay less can attend.

Whatever you pay above the lowest end of the sliding scale is a tax-deductible donation to InsightLA.

Items to Bring: Please wear comfortable clothing in muted colors. Cushions and chairs are available or you can bring your own seating if you like.

Additional Information

Vipassana retreats renew and deepen our daily meditation practice. Retreats consist of silent sitting and walking meditation, dharma talk, and sangha discussion.

There will be an opportunity to give a separate donation to InsightLA at the event.
