Description: Relational mindfulness practice: the 'hot seat' form

We can practice mindfulness not only in solitary meditation but also in interactions with other people. One form for doing this we call 'hot seats'' a simple interactive exercise in which we practice giving attention to another and receiving attention from others. In so doing, we can both develop concentration, as in solitary meditation, as well as cultivate open inquiry into our own and other's experience. The exercise is rooted in curiosity, not manipulation or coercion, much like the approach we take generally in practicing mindfulness. The Friday night sessions offer an introduction to this exercise, they are 'drop-in' (meaning regular attendance is not required), and simply coming to check it out is fine to do.
