| Description: | "In India, people lay on nails to reach enlightenment. In America, they get married." - Beverly Berg, Ph.D. This eight-week group designed by Beverly Berg for sober alcoholics and their partners, whether sober or non-alcoholic, offers a safe place to create a new path for intimacy, as well as a solid, structured, practical practice to take home. For couples who are straight, gay, lesbian, and of all ethic backgrounds Through education, experiential exercises and support, an atmosphere of connection will be created within the group. The group is designed for partners to take a close look at how their relationship functions through eight different domains that are essential to relationship vitality; trust, communication, sexuality, dealing with resentment, shadow characteristics, false assumptions, core value systems, and the ability to create fresh future vows to the foundation of the relationship. The group experience for couples normalizes the difficulties that being in a couple bares. This is a very powerful experience for increasing self-understanding, partner understanding, autonomy, and healthy connection. Each couple will be given weekly homework exercises designed to bring a more constant and predictable vulnerability, curiosity, humor, and intelligence into the mood and atmosphere of the couple relationship.
