An Introduction to the Deep States of Concentration and Absorption known as the Jhanas
The Jhanas are naturally occurring states of mind, but learning how to enter them at will and how to stay in them takes practice. Their principle use in Buddhist meditation is to generate ever increasing levels of concentration so that when the meditative mind is turned to a practice that tends towards wisdom, it can do that practice with far less distraction.
The retreat will consist of teaching and instructions on the 8 Jhanas, sitting and walking meditation, and questions and answers.
The student should understand that the study of the Jhanas is an intensive process that requires the time to train and practice. This course will provide an in depth overview with the understanding that to learn the Jhanas deeply requires the formal study of them in a longer retreat.
*This daylong is appropriate for students with some meditation experience. The Jhanas are deep states of concentration and may not be suitable for a beginning practitioner.
